The cornet is a member of the brass instrument family and is better known for its mellow tone quality when compared to the trumpet. The more common version is the Bb cornet. Found predominantly in the brass band and military band world it is also associated with early and traditional jazz as played by well-known artists such as Louis Armstrong and Bix Beiderbecke.
