Whiplash
Multi-award-winning film Whiplash depicts the relationship between an ambitious jazz student (played by Miles Teller) and his equally ambitious but abusive instructor (played by J.K. Simmons in an BAFTA and Oscar winning performance). Based on writer/director Damien Chazelle's own experiences in the Princeton High School Studio Band, it's intense, emotional and utterly brilliant. If you missed it at the cinema, it's out on DVD and Blu-Ray.
