Answer

Thank you for getting in touch. Whilst the MG06X does have built-in effects, those effects are only available on channels 1 and 2 of the mixer. Neither channel 1 or 2 have a pan control which would prevent you from using them for your Silent Piano's output (without merging the left and right channels of the piano - which would likely degrade the overall sound quality or cause significant unwanted phasing artefacts in the sound).

Instead, we'd recommend the MG10XU (link below). As well as a far greater range of effects and a convenient way to connect to a Mac, Windows PC or iPad for recording via the USB socket, crucially the MG10XU offers effects send level on every channel.

Using a cable with a stereo (TRS) jack plug on one end, and either two mono (left and right) jacks or two mono (left and right) RCA phono plugs on the other (link below), you'd be able to connect your Silent Piano to the stereo channels 5/6 or 7/8 on the MG10XU.

Alternatively, if you wanted to increase the signal level of the piano sound or add a level of compression, you could use the individual channels 1 and 2 for the left and right piano channels respectively - you'd want to use the pan controls to set channel 1 to hard-left, and channel 2 to hard-right.

You can control the level of effect (eg reverb) in the following ways:

  • The amount of signal going from the original channel to the effects system
  • The type of effect the effect system is set to (eg 'Reverb Hall 1' or 'Reverb Stage 2')
  • The amount of signal coming out of the effects system and back into the overall mix

This means you can control the amount of reverb without changing the master volume control.
