VCM Effects
Most of THR's effects feature VCM effects processors. Based on the technology used in Yamaha's professional audio mixers, VCM effects give unsurpassed realism and quality.

The THR Editor, available for download from http://download.yamaha.com, offers deep editing of amp and effect parameters using a computer. Additional in-depth controls include compressor and noise gate functions.
USB Connection
THR's design provides stereo playback from your smartphone or other device through its AUX jack or direct from your computer via the USB connection.
Tap Tempo & In Built Tuner
Tap tempo function to quickly set delay time.The built-in chromatic tuner features accurate, stable tuning and an easy to read display.
Virtual Tube Illumination
THR's Virtual Tube Illumination includes a simulated orange tube glow from the metal speaker grille.

Questions & Answers
Question: I'm interested in either the Yamaha THR5A or the THR10C. Can I use either for both electro-acoustic and electric guitars (say with a bit of reverb/chorus)? I see the THR5A has the 'EG CLN' mode - is this for electric guitar? The THR10C has an 'ACO' mode - is this a setting for acoustic guitar?
Can I use normal guitar pedals with the THR amps?
Is the THR5A a better choice if acoustic/clean sound is the primary goal?

That's right; the THR10C focuses on tube amp modelling but does include the 'ACO' setting - this simulates the tone from a studio microphone (either with an electro-acoustic or electric guitar) through an acoustic amp. The 'EG CLN' setting on THR5A models a low-gain, clean tube amp sound (which can be used with electro-acoustic or electric guitar).
It's fine to use pedals with the THR Series (though you do have high quality effects built into each model).
We think that if you're after an amplifier for an electro-acoustic guitar (or an electric guitar always played with a clean tone), the THR5A is your best option.
If you're looking for a good all-round model for both electric and electro-acoustic guitars, try the THR10 v2 - this has a variety of tube amp models as well as clean, acoustic and bass modes.
Question: I have a Yamaha AEX 500. I use mostly the piezo pickup, and prefer a fairly clean sound. I'm think of a THR amp. Do you think the THR5 or THR5A would be better for me? Many thanks, Jerry
