Overview

Our Custom and Professional grade flutes have earned a reputation for exceptional quality, design, performance and consistency, thanks to the craftsmanship of our brass and woodwind workshops.

Our Student models inherit many of the same hallmarks - but, to aid new flautists, our Student flutes are designed and shaped to encourage best-technique, as well as offering superb playability. For instance, we've designed the lip plate to guide beginners toward proper breath utilisation and keys with extensively tested dimensions and angles for optimum balance and easy playability. These and other details are some of the reasons why our Student flutes have become bestsellers worldwide.

The YFL-212 features covered keys, an offset G key and has a Split-E mechanism. This edition comes with both straight and curved headjoints - ideal for younger players who'll initially need a curved headjoint before growing into the straight headjoint. The headjoints and lip plates are made from nickel silver which has been silver-plated.

Features

CY Headjoint

Featuring a double flare taper and a unique embouchure hole undercut design for excellent response and a warm rich tone, the CY headjoint helps beginners quickly learn to produce a beautiful sound. More advanced players will appreciate its even, quick response in all registers.

Keys

All key shapes and placement have been ergonomically designed for a comfortable, natural-feeling performance. The keys are hand-assembled and adjusted for perfect balance and touch.

Pointed Key Arms

A#, F# and other non-fingered keys feature pointed key arms. This beautiful key design is inspired by traditional European style.

Questions & Answers

Ask a Question:

Answer

Hi Alexis, thank you for your question. All of our YFL-200 model flutes are made to the same high specification - the model numbers denote differences in styling or operation:

  • YFL-212: Has covered keys, an offset-G, a Split-E mechanism
  • YFL-222: Has covered keys, an offset-G (no Split-E mechanism)
  • YFL-262: Has ring keys, an offset-G (no Split-E mechanism)
  • YFL-272: Has ring keys, an offset-G, a Split-E mechanism
  • YFL-282: Has ring keys, an inline-G (no Split-E mechanism)

So the YFL-212 and YFL-272 are identical except that the YFL-212 has covered keys which are easier to use (especially for beginners who are still learning finger positioning) whereas the YFL-272 has ring keys which require more finesse and accuracy. Ring keys can sometimes be difficult for young children whose fingers can't always physically cover the keys; at the same time, ring keys can offer an experienced flautist more exact control over tone (as you're able to control how much of the key you cover).

For a beginner, the YFL-212 is the most popular.
