The Most Professional Intermediate Oboe Ever Made!

The YOB-431B is made of top quality aged and seasoned grenadilla wood for a rich 'professional' sound. This is the same material as used on our Custom models and it has been carefully crafted in a similar manner. It features accurate intonation, a balanced response, and an exquisite tone - truly professional quality at an intermediate model price. The 431B has a semi-automatic octave system and also includes a thumb plate. The keys are hand-adjusted by experienced artisans for precise playability.

The ergonomic key design is based upon the Custom series for comfortable performance.

A thumb-plate key is supplied as standard in the UK.

Question: Does the Yamaha YOB-431B oboe have a simplified conservatoire system or thumb plate? Or it has dual system simplified conservatoire & thumb plate?
My daughter currently uses your YOB-241 - we'd like to get a higher-end model. Can you please advise if YOB-431B is suitable for her? Thank you, Jerry

Hi Jerry, thanks for getting in touch. The YOB-431B has a Simplified Conservatoire system (semi-automatic octave system) with a thumb plate. But we'd recommend also looking at the YOB-431MBE Mk II Oboe - link below.

The YOB-431MBE Mk II also has the semi-acoustic octave system and thumbplate but, unlike the YOB-431B, has our Duet body. A Duet body is made from a combination of grenadilla tonewood for the outer body and - in the case of this model - a precisely-shaped ABS resin inner body. This offers substantial benefits to oboists over conventional oboes, including improved tonal consistency and durability.
